Kids are naturally curious. Once they see a piano, it's natural that they'd try to experiment with the instrument. Color each note with the right key and let your child read and play through the music sheet. Remember, however, to use simple songs first and then progress through the more complex ones later.
This is a more complex version of the previous activity. Here, instead of using images you can use numbers. Label a whole octave with numbers ranging from 1 to 12. Then, translate a simple music sheet's notes into numbers representing those you wrote on the piano keys. Once done, let your child play through the kids music lesson sheet. This type of activity is like playing piano through tablature. Instead of reading notes, your child reads and plays through sheet music by translating notes into numbers. This activity also offers a wider range since you can use a whole octave.
Another creative way of introducing formal kids music lesson of piano for kids is by making up a story. Pick a simple fairy tale with three or more characters like Hansel & Gretel, Peter Pan, or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Then, assign a key for each character (i.e., Hansel for "do" and Gretel for "la,"). As you tell the story, let your child play the assigned note whenever you mention a character. When you do this however, it's important that you assign characters to different notes. Say you and your child are practicing through Goldilocks' story. Let Papa Bear be a low note, Mama Bear a middle note, and let Baby Bear be a high note. This way your child can recognize which part of the piano produces notes of varying ranges.
These are only a few fun games that you and your child can play. In fact, you can even do a lot more. What matters here is that your kid should have fun while playing the piano. Be creative and entertaining. Just remember to make the games simple. However, don't worry if your kid doesn't play for too long. It doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't enjoying the piano; it means they're just being kids. However, if they still are interested, let them take formal kids music lesson of piano!
